imo personalization is the next frontier of AI, and it won’t look like advertising

it won’t be invisible to the end user, the user will intentionally grant access to new apps, bc that’s how to get the apps to work very well

i see 2 main players:

1. OpenAI (ChatGPT)
2. Google (Search)

they’re currently gathering gobs of data on your private preferences, interests, learning style, etc.

historically this type of data was transparently sold to advertisers

but here, it’s pumped into AI-enabled apps to make prompting a thing of the past. The AI always knows what you intended, bc it knows *you*

a standard way to interact with personalization systems will emerge, and personalization will be paired with auth systems like OAuth

when you visit a new site or app, it can use any LLM and then use your personalization database pulled from OpenAI or Google, probably seamlessly alongside OAuth

now: i write *paragraphs* into the AI so it knows what i’m actually trying to do

future: i write a terse “ wtf?” and the AI answers the question i was really asking

is it going to be better?

uh, depends on your predisposition. it’s certainly going to be more invasive

instinctively i want the data management to be fully open source and transparent, but you *know* that’s not going to happen

it’ll definitely be a far more powerful AI experience though

a block that sits on your chest and captures what actually happened in your day
